Another question was submitted to the SVM/TB Classifieds for the SVM Book Expert, and Northwoman hit it out of the ball park!

Question submitted by Merick:

• Was there ever a reason given for why Long Shadow was embezzling money from Fangtasia in SVM? Was it just greed or was it something else?

Northwoman Answered:

This happened in Book 1 - Dead Until Dark.  

Long Shadow never expressed any reason himself; he was dead as soon as Sookie knew he was the embezzler.  We only hear things from Sookie's POV in the books.  However, she does ask Bill.

"Why would he steal from them?"

"He must have had some venture he needed capital for," Bill said absently. "And he was in a mainstreaming position. He couldn't just go out and kill a bank manager after hypnotizing him and persuading the man to give him the money. So he took it from Eric."

"Wouldn't Eric have loaned it to him?"

"If Long Shadow hadn't been too proud to ask, yes," Bill said.
So that is all we know.  With Long Shadow dead, we can't really know his reasoning.
